Families

We provide a Family Support service for families who are affected directly or indirectly by problematic drug or alcohol related issues. This not only focuses on parental substance misusing behaviours and associated risks, but also how this may impact on their ability to meet their child’s needs.

Hidden Harm is the term used to describe the harm caused to children, from a parent or care giver, who has problematic drug or alcohol use.

“There are between 250,000 and 350,000 children of problem drug users in the UK – about 1 child for every problem drug user”

– AMCD inquiry: ‘Hidden harm’ report on children of drug users

Our hidden harm work acknowledges and supports the voice of the child or young person through; 1 to 1 interventions and peer support sessions, with the aim of supporting them to develop their resilience, emotional intelligence and improve family dynamics.

To find out more about our hidden harm work read the blog from Insight Platform.

Once a family is referred we will complete an assessment, which identifies risks and strengths within the family. We will then put together an individual support plan, to address additional needs and work together with the family to achieve desired outcomes and goals.

Download the Parents Voice app which provides support for parents and carers. Providing a way to better understand how to spot the signs of risky behaviour, before they escalate into long term issues.
